Ridiculous US laws
Did you ever feel like playing dominos on a Sunday? If you are from Alabama, you might want to rethink that, because it is against the law. Or maybe, you felt like eating fried chicken, using a fork and a knife. However, if you live in Gainesville, Georgia, you wouldn’t want to do that, since it is the law to eat fried chicken only using your hands. Here are some more ridiculous and unusual laws that are in effect and can be found across the US.
Here are just a few laws from Alabama. It is legal to marry within family, i.e. incestuous marriage. However, an ice cream cone is not allowed to be carried in your back pocket. Just in case you wanted to buy some ice cream later. On Noble Street in Anniston it is against the law to wear blue jeans. In Lee County there is a law that prohibits selling peanuts on Wednesday after sundown. Sorry, you’ll have to wait for those peanuts until tomorrow. Under no circumstances is it legal for anyone in Mobile, AL to own confetti.
In California, it is illegal for women to drive a car wearing a house coat. In Alhambra, you are not allowed to leave a car outside overnight. Unless you have a proper permit, that is. In Baldwin Park you are not allowed to drive a bicycle inside a swimming pool. It is also illegal to spit in Burlingame. This however does not apply to baseball diamonds.
In Georgia it is against the law to keep a donkey in a bathtub. In Quitman, a law prohibits chickens from crossing the road. Well, that answers the question why the chicken didn’t cross the road. It is illegal to whistle loudly after 11 PM in Athens-Clark County. In Atlanta, it is against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole. In Columbus, getting or doing a tattoo on a Sunday is against the law.
In Kansas, you are not allowed to shoot rabbits from motorboats. Also, you shouldn’t try to catch fish with bear hands, since it is also illegal. In Russel the law forbids anyone from owning a musical car horn. And singing the alphabet at night on the streets of Topeka is illegal.
That obesity is a problem is no secret. That is probably why someone in Idaho got the idea to make it punishable by law for men to give their partners a box of candy that weighs more than 50 lbs. It is also illegal to ride the merry-go-round on a Sunday.
One of the craziest laws, probably, is in Washington State. The law states that you can be arrested or fined if you are caught harassing Bigfoot. In Texas, it is illegal to take more than three sips of beer in a row while you are standing up. In Indiana, if you have eaten onions or garlic you are not allowed to attend a public event or use public transport within four hours.
So, before you feel like doing something crazy, like trying to catch a fish off of a camel’s back, stop and reconsider. Do some research and find out if it is illegal in your country or town. Because, if it is there’s probably a good reason.
